OpenAI gives its agents their own computers

At DevDay in San Francisco, OpenAI launched dots: always-on ChatGPT agents that run on GPT-6 Astra, each with a dedicated cloud computer and browser the user can open to inspect its work. Dots connect to thousands of apps, reach people in Slack and Teams, can hand coding work to Codex, and only touch the user's own machine if that link is switched on. They roll out to Pro and Business Premium, with an Enterprise beta; Pro users in the EEA, Switzerland and the UK are excluded for now.

Why it matters

It is the third lab in seven weeks to ship an agent that owns a machine, after SpaceXAI's Grok Bot in August and Meta's Muse on Sep 8. Once the agent has its own computer, value moves from the chat window to the runtime underneath it: sandboxes, persistent storage, permissions, identity and payment.
